CONTEL ENTERS THE PICTURE

After purchasing Page Iberica, S.A. from Northrop in about 1978, Contel bought the Page and PTSI (Page Technical Services, Inc.) assets in 1982. (Contel did not purchase the 10-acre site at 801 Follin Lane in Vienna, Virginia). The Page name was retained by Northrop until a lawsuit against the Iranian government was settled in Northrop’s favor in 1987. Contel then acquired the corporate names.

In about 1988 a group comprising Duane Bluhm, Kalevi Oittinen and Earl Bauer purchased the corporate names Page Communications Engineers, Inc and Page Technical Services, Inc. from Contel.  Following its reincarnation, PTSI bid on and won contracts for the operation and maintenance of a number of US Air Force troposcatter and microwave communication systems and power plants in Spain and Italy. Those systems were later dismantled under the contract and vacated after many of the U.S. facilities were closed early in the Clinton administration. The contract work was completed in 1996.
